Abstract

Background: Breastfeeding is the best way to meet the nutritional needs for infant growth and development. In addition to infants, breast milk also has a positive impact on maternal health. The duration of exclusive breastfeeding is at least 6 months. Data from the Indonesian Health Demographic Survey (SKDI) shows that in general the  ASIX rate for infants under six months of age reaches 52%. Domperidone is a dopamine D2 receptor antagonist. Objective: This study aims to determine relevant studies on the effectiveness of domperidone on increasing breast milk production in postpartum breastfeeding mothers. Method: The search strategy in this Evidence Based Case Report review is to identify relevant studies. Searches in 2 databases, namely Pubmed & Science Direct, were conducted using the keywords domperidone, breast milk production, postpartum women. In assessing scientific evidence, we use the guidelines from the "Center for Evidence Based Medicine for Critical Appraisal of Systematic Review", then analyzed followed by presentation of results, discussion and drawing conclusions. Result: The number of articles obtained was 17 articles, from the results of the screening of titles and abstracts, 2 articles remained. Of the 2 articles that were read in full, there were 2 articles that met the criteria, namely being able to answer research questions. Conclusion: From the results of the review of 2 literatures obtained results that domperidone can increase breast milk production in postpartum mothers according to the right dose, because it can have some side effects. Therefore, the use of galactagogues needs to be considered carefully, and consultation with medical personnel is highly recommended.
